Snow White Coloring Pages

Snow White is one of the best-loved fairy tales there is, and the Brothers Grimm wrote it down in Germany more than 200 years ago. A jealous queen with a talking mirror, seven dwarfs in a tiny cottage and one very dangerous apple... it's no wonder people keep retelling it. Below you'll find the whole story told in pictures, a set of anime-style pages, and my "What If...?" pages, where Snow White turns up everywhere from outer space to a 1920s jazz club.

The Story of Snow White

Once upon a time there was a little princess with skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony, so everyone called her Snow White. Her father the king loved her dearly, but he died while she was still young, and Snow White was left in the care of her stepmother, the new queen.

Snow White grew from a curious little girl into a kind and beautiful young woman, and that turned out to be a problem.

The queen was beautiful too, and very vain about it. She owned a magic mirror that always told the truth, and every day she asked it who was the fairest in the land. For years the answer was the queen herself, but on Snow White's sixteenth birthday the mirror said Snow White's name instead, and the queen was furious.

The queen ordered her huntsman to take Snow White deep into the woods and make sure she never came back. He led her far into the trees, but when the moment came he couldn't bring himself to hurt her, so he told her to run and never return to the castle.

Snow White ran until the castle was far behind her and the trees were so thick she couldn't tell which way she'd come. When night fell she curled up on the moss and slept right there in the forest, scared and alone, with the owls hooting overhead.

In the morning she stumbled on a tiny cottage with seven little beds, seven little chairs and seven little plates on the table. Nobody was home, so she nibbled a bit from each plate and fell fast asleep across the beds.

The cottage belonged to seven dwarfs who spent their days digging for ore in the mountains. When they came home and found a princess asleep on their beds, they were pretty surprised, but they listened to her story and told her she could stay with them. All they asked was that she help keep house and never, ever open the door to a stranger.

So Snow White cooked and tidied, fetched water from the well and made friends with every rabbit, deer and bird in the forest. Each morning the dwarfs went off to work reminding her not to let anyone in, and for a while she was happy there.

Back at the castle, the queen asked her mirror the same old question, and the mirror told her Snow White was still the fairest, living with seven dwarfs over the hills. In some versions the queen tries to get rid of her with a too-tight lace and a poisoned comb first, but her best-known trick is the apple. She disguised herself as an old farm woman and made an apple that was half white and half red, with all the poison in the red half. Snow White knew she shouldn't take food from a stranger, but the old woman bit the white half herself to show it was safe, so Snow White took a bite of the red.

The bite stuck in her throat and she fell into a sleep so deep that the dwarfs couldn't wake her. They couldn't bear to say goodbye, so they laid her in a glass coffin on the hillside and took turns keeping watch. One day a prince rode by and fell in love with her the moment he saw her. In some versions his kiss breaks the spell, and in others his servants stumble while carrying the coffin and the piece of apple pops right out. Either way, Snow White opened her eyes, married her prince and lived happily ever after.

Anime Snow White

These pages tell the same story in an anime and manga style, with big expressive eyes and lots of flowing hair. They follow Snow White right through to the apple and the prince's kiss at the end.

What If...? Snow White

What if Snow White's story happened somewhere else entirely? These pages drop her into different worlds and eras, from a steampunk wasteland to a 1960s commune, and each one comes with its own little twist on the tale. Somehow the jealous stepmother and the seven loyal friends always find their way in.

Alien Snow White

Alien Snow White is a princess on the run from her stepmother, and she's taken the Heart of the Galaxy with her, a glowing artefact powerful enough to bring peace to the stars or tear them apart. She hides out on an asteroid base with seven alien friends, each with a different special ability, and dreams of going home one day to set things right.

Gothic Snow White

This Snow White lives in a dark, misty forest, with raven hair and a calm, mysterious stare that makes even her stepmother a little nervous. Her seven friends each have a strange power of their own, and the apple looks a lot less innocent in this version.

Rococo Snow White

Rococo fashion in 1700s France was all about silk, lace and towering hairdos, and this Snow White has a big flower tucked into hers. She hides from her stepmother in a secret chateau with seven kind-hearted craftsmen, dreaming of the day she won't have to hide at all.

Pirate Snow White

Pirate Snow White tucks up her hair, dresses as a cabin boy and signs on with the very crew her stepmother sent to find her. Nobody suspects a thing, and day by day she wins them over with her quick thinking and courage, until seven of the best sailors on board are firmly on her side.

Victorian Snow White

Victorian Snow White wears a gown of rich silk with puffed sleeves, and there are pearls and flowers woven into her hair. She hides from her stepmother in a quiet country manor with seven kind craftsmen, and she's a lot tougher than all that lace suggests.

Edwardian Snow White

In the early 1900s, a fashionable lady needed a hat, and the bigger the better. Edwardian Snow White's is piled high with feathers and flowers, and she shelters from her stepmother with seven loyal friends in a little cottage out in the countryside.

1920s Snow White

In the 1920s, Snow White trades her gown for a flapper dress covered in fringe and sequins, with a sparkly headband in her bobbed hair. She hides out with seven jazz musicians in a secret club called a speakeasy, where her stepmother would never think to look.

1960s Snow White

Groovy 1960s Snow White wears a sleeveless turtleneck, wild geometric pants and a big bow in her sleek bob. She escapes her stepmother by joining seven free-spirited friends in a commune, where it's all peace, love and music.

Punk Rock Snow White

Punk Rock Snow White has spiky hair, a ripped tutu and a heart necklace her stepmother wants very badly, though nobody knows why yet. She hides out with seven loyal friends in an underground club, trying to figure out the necklace's secret before the queen catches up with her.

Steampunk Snow White

In a steampunk wasteland, Snow White wears a gown of brass and leather and holds a mechanical heart that's connected to her chest by tubes and keeps her alive. Her stepmother wants its power for herself, so Snow White hides with seven inventors in a secret workshop, where they keep the heart ticking.

Cyborg Snow White

Cyborg Snow White is the rightful ruler of a huge space empire of AI-enhanced humans, and she's much stronger than she looks. Her stepmother wants the throne, so Snow White hides aboard a secret starship with seven loyal cyborgs, leading her people with kindness from wherever she happens to be.
