Plastic Doll Coloring Pages
Not every kid got a "real" Barbie. Plenty of us played with the cheaper plastic dolls from the store instead, and we loved them. Their arms, legs and heads popped right off, which made them very easy to dress. I had three: one with red hair, one with an afro and one with long blonde hair.
I grew up in an apartment building with about 16 units. My dad managed the grocery store nearby as well as the building, and all of us kids shared one room. It sounds squished but it was awesome. Everyone else in the building was a little old lady, my grandma included. I could stop at Martha's for fudge or Anne's for chocolate chip cookies. Sadie crocheted lace and loved making clothes for my dolls. She taught me to crochet too!
I never realised my dolls were somehow "not real". I took one to show and tell in kindergarten to show off her amazing lace dress, and it turns out "not real" Barbies in couture outfits are very well loved by kindergarten classmates!

Through the Decades
Barbie's hair and clothes have followed the fashions of each decade since she first appeared in 1959. Look for the pearls and bows in the 50's and the big curls in the 70's.
