Camelot Coloring Pages

Camelot was King Arthur's castle and the home of the Round Table. It's the bright, hopeful heart of the whole legend, the place every knight rode out from and hoped to come home to.

Where Was Camelot?

Nobody knows for sure, and the oldest stories about Arthur don't even mention Camelot. The name first turns up in a French poem from the 1100s, and people have been hunting for the real spot ever since. Some say it was Cadbury Castle, an old hill fort in Somerset. In Caerleon in Wales, the grassy ring of an old Roman amphitheatre was once known as King Arthur's Round Table.

The Round Table

Arthur's table was round so that no knight could sit at the head of it and act more important than the others. In some versions it was a wedding gift from Guinevere's father, and it was big enough for 150 knights. Camelot's story ends sadly, with the knights quarrelling and Mordred turning against Arthur, but it's the Round Table people remember, which is why "Camelot" still means a bright and hopeful place.
