St. Andrew's Day - Scotland's National Holiday:
St Andrew's Day is celebrated on November 30th each year. Andrew was an apostle of Jesus and younger brother of Peter.
The Scottish National Holiday honors the patron saint of Scotland and is a time for national pride with music, food, and community.
Celebrations often involve gatherings with friends and family, parties, and events that can include traditional dishes like haggis, neeps (turnips), and tatties (potatoes).
Scottish bagpipers
The Great Highland bagpipe is so loud that its tune carries right across a valley, which is why Scottish clans once used pipers to send messages and rally their people. Many clan chiefs kept their own piper, and some families passed the job down for generations. Today pipers still lead parades and play at weddings all over Scotland.
Scottish Landmarks and Symbols
Scotland is home to many iconic landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle, Loch Ness, and the Isle of Skye. It is also known for its famous exports, such as Scotch whisky, tartan fabrics, and the bagpipes.

Celtic Roots
Scotland’s oldest stories come from its Celtic roots, and many of them happen at the water’s edge. Storytellers told of the kelpie, a horse that waited by the loch and invited travellers onto its back, and the selkie, a seal who could slip off her skin to walk on land as a woman.

Over the Sea to Skye:
Some songs tell a story, and this old Scottish rowing song tells a true one. Here's the chorus:
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
“Onward!” the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that’s born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.
The lad in the song is Prince Charles Edward Stuart, who lost a big battle in 1746 and had soldiers searching all over Scotland for him. A brave young woman named Flora MacDonald came up with a plan. She got a pass to cross to the Isle of Skye with a servant and an Irish spinning maid called Betty Burke, and Betty was really the prince in a plain dress and a hooded cloak!
He was so tall that he never quite got the hang of the skirts. They rowed across in a small boat while the waves tossed spray over everyone, and the prince soon sailed away to France and never came back to Scotland. The song kept the memory of that stormy crossing alive...
