Grass-type Pokémon are one of the three classic elemental starter types, alongside Fire and Water. This trio creates a simple triangle that helps new trainers understand the concept of type advantages and weaknesses.
Statistically, Grass-types tend to be weaker defensively, with five common weaknesses and seven types resistant to Grass-type moves. Some Grass-type combinations—like Grass/Psychic, Grass/Ice, and Grass/Dark—have as many as seven weaknesses, making them a challenge to train.
In Generations 1–3, all Grass-type moves were categorized as Special.
Effects of the Grass type

- The Overgrow ability boosts the power of Grass-type moves by 50% when the Pokémon has less than one-third of its HP remaining.
- The Sap Sipper ability raises the Pokémon’s Attack one stage when hit by a Grass-type move instead of taking damage.
