One of the most famous stories about Fingal is his encounter with the magical Salmon of Knowledge. According to legend, this mystical fish possessed all the knowledge in the world, and whoever consumed it would gain its wisdom.
As a young boy, Fingal was tasked with catching and cooking the salmon for the poet Finnegas, who had long sought the fish. While preparing the salmon, Fingal accidentally burned his thumb and instinctively sucked it to ease the pain. In doing so, he unknowingly absorbed the salmon’s wisdom. From that moment, Fingal gained extraordinary knowledge and insight, which he used to lead the Fianna and protect his land.
This tale highlights Fingal's destiny and the divine favor bestowed upon him, emphasizing his role as a wise and just leader.
