Cecilia is said to have converted her husband, Valerian, to Christianity and to have “sung to God in her heart” as she faced martyrdom.
Her feast day is observed on November 22, and she has been venerated in art, poetry, and song throughout the centuries. Saint Cecilia’s basilica in Trastevere, Rome, is built on the site of her former home and remains a place of pilgrimage and musical celebration in her honor.
