Greek Creatures and Monsters - in alphabetical order:
Some have information about the creature (the ones at the far right)
Centaur:
- brave and wise with the body of a horse and the head of a man
Centaur Girl:
- They didn't exist in Greek mythology, but I have two daughters and they wanted one *grin*
Chariot:
- The chariot is a type of horse carriage, used in both peace and war as the chief vehicle of many ancient peoples.
Charon:
- ferried the dead over the river Styx
Chimaera:
- An immortal creature that is the combination of many creatures.
- Usually it is mainly a fire-breathing lion -- sometimes with the wings of an eagle or a tail with a snake's head.
- It also sometimes has a goat head coming from its back.
Cyclops:
- demi-gods with a single eye in the center of their foreheads
Giants:
- sons of the titan, Uranus.
Griffin:
- body of a lion with the head and wings of an eagle
Harpy:
- three sisters each with the head of a woman and body of a bird.
- similar to the sirens, but without the beautiful singing voices.
Medusa:
- one of the Gorgons
- as punishment, she was made ugly with hair of snakes. One look would turn a man to stone
Minotaur:
- monster with the head of a bull and body of a man.
- lived in the center of King Minos' labrynth.
Phoenix:
- the phoenix was a bird that symbolized immortality and rebirth.
- when the phoenix became old, it would build burst into flame and
a new phoenix would be reborn from he ashes.
Siren:
- three sisters each with the head of a woman and body of a bird.
- their beautiful voices lured sailors to their deaths.
Sphinx:
- A sphinx is a mythological creature with the body of a lion, sometimes the wings of an eagle and the head of a person.
- Those who cannot answer the sphinx's riddle suffer are killed and eaten by her.
Trojan Horse:
- Empty wooden shell built to look like a horse.
- The Greek soldiers hid inside so they could sneak into Troy during the Trojan war.
