The gray fox is special because it can do something most other canines cannot... it climbs trees! With its sharp claws and agile body, the gray fox scrambles up trunks and leaps from branch to branch as easily as a cat. Its coat is a mix of gray, black, and reddish-brown, which helps it blend into wooded forests. Gray foxes are shy and secretive, often hunting rabbits, mice, or birds under the cover of darkness. During the day, they may rest high up in a tree or in a hollow log, safe from larger predators.
