The classic flying saucer is only one shape people have reported over the years. Others describe triangles and glowing balls of light, and a few swear they saw something shaped like a giant cigar.

History of UFOs
In 1947 a pilot flying near Mount Rainier said nine bright objects were moving like a saucer skipping across water. A reporter wrote down "flying saucer" and the name stuck. People had been staring at strange things in the sky for thousands of years before that, and some of the huge things they built still have people asking how they did it.History of UFOs coloring pages

Rockets
Rockets are much older than space travel. Inventors in China were launching gunpowder rockets about 800 years ago, long before anyone dreamed of reaching the moon.
Space Ships
Writers and artists were sending spaceships to other planets long before anyone built a real rocket. A made-up ship doesn't have to follow any rules, so these ones come as odd, huge and fast as whoever drew them wanted.

Imagining unidentified flying objects...
The night sky is a deep blue-black with silver stars scattered across it. A saucer slides in without a sound, its rim ringed with little yellow and pink lights, and a pale green glow pools underneath it and lights up the clouds below.
On the ground a rocket waits on the launchpad in the early morning, white with a bright red nose cone and black letters down its side. When the engines fire, orange and yellow flame pours out underneath and a thick grey cloud of smoke rolls across the sand. A few seconds later it's a tiny silver streak climbing toward the same stars the saucer came from.
