Rock Pokémon are hardy and rugged, often resembling mountains, boulders, or rocky creatures.
Rock-types are strong against Fire-, Ice-, Flying-, and Bug-type Pokémon, but they are weak against Water-, Grass-, Fighting-, Ground-, and Steel-type moves. Some Rock Pokémon have abilities like Sturdy, which prevents them from being knocked out in one hit, or Rock Head, which allows them to use powerful moves without recoil, giving them unique tactical options.
Rock-type Pokémon are tough and sturdy, as their name suggests. Many have very high Defense, making them difficult to take down physically. Earlier Rock Pokémon often had Ground as a secondary type, which made them especially vulnerable to Grass- and Water-type attacks.
In Generations 1–3, all Rock-type moves were categorized as Physical.
