He is believed to protect the family and livestock, bringing good fortune if treated well, especially during Christmas time. The Nisse of Frijsenborg

In the old manor of Frijsenborg in Denmark, there lived a Nisse who had been there for many generations. The manor's inhabitants respected the Nisse, always ensuring that a bowl of porridge with a generous pat of butter was left out for him on Christmas Eve. The Nisse, in turn, helped around the estate, making sure the farm animals were healthy and the crops were bountiful.
One Christmas Eve, a new steward was appointed at Frijsenborg. He was a proud and skeptical man who didn’t believe in old superstitions and decided not to leave out the traditional bowl of porridge for the Nisse. That night, the Nisse went to the barn and found no porridge. Feeling insulted and angry, he decided to teach the steward a lesson.
The Nisse took out his anger on the farm's prized bull. He led the bull into the steward's bedroom, causing chaos and uproar in the manor. The steward was shocked and frightened, realizing his mistake. The next morning, he quickly prepared a large bowl of porridge with a big pat of butter and placed it in the barn as an apology.
The Nisse, appeased by the gesture, forgave the steward. The manor returned to its usual peace and prosperity, with the Nisse continuing his helpful ways. From then on, no one at Frijsenborg ever forgot to leave out the porridge for the Nisse on Christmas Eve, ensuring his goodwill and assistance.
