Morgan le Fay Coloring Pages
Morgan le Fay is King Arthur's half-sister and one of the most powerful enchantresses in the old Arthurian legends. Depending on who's telling the story she's either a wise healer or Arthur's fiercest rival, and storytellers have been arguing about her for nearly 900 years.
Morgan the Enchantress
Morgan of Avalon
Long before the stories made her Arthur's rival, Morgan was a healer. In the oldest tale about her she rules Avalon, the island of apples, along with her eight sisters, and she can change her shape and fly through the air. When Arthur was badly wounded in his last battle, it was Morgan who took him in and promised to make him well again.Fairy tale castle and house coloring pages
Morgan and Merlin
In some stories Merlin was Morgan's teacher. She learned magic from him as a young woman, and she was such a quick study that she soon had spells of her own he couldn't undo. Other storytellers put the two of them on opposite sides, with Merlin trying to protect Arthur and Morgan stirring up trouble at Camelot and testing the Knights of the Round Table.
Her Many Names
"Le Fay" is old French for "the fairy," so her name really means Morgan the Fairy. You'll also see her called Morgana or Morgaine, and her sister Morgause sometimes gets mixed up with her. In Italy she became Fata Morgana, and the shimmering mirages that appear over the sea near Sicily are still named after her.
