Hansel and Gretel Coloring Pages

Hansel and Gretel is one of the Grimm brothers' fairy tales, and it's a properly spooky one! A brother and sister are left in the woods, stumble on a house made of bread and cake, and find out the old woman living there is a witch with a big appetite. Luckily, they're a lot cleverer than she expects.

Hansel

Hansel is the planner. The first time the children were taken into the woods, he dropped a trail of white pebbles that shone in the moonlight and led them all the way home. The second time all he had was a bit of bread, and the birds gobbled up every crumb.

Gretel

Gretel spends a good part of the story scared, but when it really matters she's the one who saves them both. She tricks the witch into the oven and lets Hansel out of his cage. On the way home she even works out that a duck can't carry two children at once, so it ferries them across the lake one at a time.

Hansel and Gretel Together

Their father was a poor woodcutter, and there was barely enough bread to go round. Whatever happened in the forest, the two of them stuck together.

The Candy House

In the old story, the witch's house was made of bread, with a roof of cake and windows of clear sugar. Later retellings piled on gingerbread, candy canes and gumdrops, so feel free to make yours as sweet as you like. Bright candy colors really pop against plain brown gingerbread walls.

The Candy Witch

She seemed like a sweet old granny at first, offering pancakes and soft beds, but the whole house was a trap. Her eyes were weak, which is how Hansel fooled her day after day by holding out a little bone instead of his finger.
