Pleiades Constellation and Meteor Shower

The Pleiades, or "Seven Sisters," is a star cluster in the constellation Taurus, visible worldwide and best seen in late autumn and winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Located about 444 light-years away, it contains hundreds of stars, with the seven brightest named after Greek mythology's seven sisters: Alcyone, Maia, Electra, Taygete, Asterope, Celaeno, and Merope. The cluster is around 100 million years old and holds significant cultural importance in various societies.

The Pleiades are associated with the Taurid meteor shower, which peaks in late October and early November. Known for bright, slow-moving meteors called "fireballs," the Taurids originate from Comet Encke. The shower has two streams, the Northern and Southern Taurids, and is best viewed after midnight, offering a spectacular display of celestial activity.
